Crowded teeth
Crowded teeth occur when there is not enough room for the teeth to erupt and position themselves. Crowded teeth can happen in children and adults, and crowded lower teeth is a commonly found orthodontic issue. Crowding of the teeth prevents you from brushing and flossing properly, resulting in caries and gum disease.
Crowding can be fixed at any age using braces or clear aligners like Invisalign. Crowding of the teeth can be mild, moderate or severe. The dentist will explain to you the best option to fix the crowded teeth based on your condition.
Spacing of teeth
Spacing between teeth is a very common problem affecting aesthetics. Spacing for teeth usually does not cause any oral health issues. Spacing of teeth in children with primary or mixed dentition is normal, and usually, no treatment is needed for this.
When the permanent teeth erupt, and if the spacing persists this will be a cosmetic issue. Spacing has to be assessed to find the underlying reasons. Spacing of teeth can occur due to missing teeth, tongue thrusting habit when swallowing, small sized teeth when compared with the size of the jaw, soft tissues like frenum that is oversized.
Once the reason for spacing is identified, the treatment is planned to ensure there is little chance of relapse.
Overbite or Deep bite
A deep bite or overbite is a cosmetic and functional problem. Overbite can affect speech and appearance; it can cause trauma to the upper teeth and temporomandibular joints.
Jaw alignment and teeth alignment must be corrected for many overbite and deep bite cases. This makes sure that the biting is comfortable and teeth are aligned to achieve the dream smile.
The duration of the treatment varies depending on the severity of the overbite.
Crossbite
Crossbite occurs when there is a reverse overlap between the upper and lower teeth. If not treated promptly, it can affect oral health. Crossbites can be skeletal or dental. Once assessed, dental crossbite can be treated and fixed with minimal risk of relapse in the future.
Other misalignments of teeth
Any kind of misalignment of the teeth is a cosmetic concern. Most mild and moderate misalignments can be fixed in very little time, from six months to one year. Severe and complex dental issues may take a couple of years to finish the treatment.
